If it’s May, it’s all about the One Club for Creativity’s One Show Awards here at Biz. The One Club’s ADC and One Show Awards took place from 6 to 10 May in New York, with roving reporter Ann Nurock attending live. Our proudest moment was the gold Pencil awarded to TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris for “Breaking Ballet” on behalf of Joburg Ballet under ‘short-form video – campaign series episodic’ in the branded entertainment discipline. Click through to the special section on site to find out how all 30 of our finalists.

We hardly have a moment to catch our breath because with the One Show done and dusted, it’s time to set our sights on Cannes Lions 2019, taking place in France from 17 to 21 June. We already have some news in this regard as Ster-Kinekor Sales, the official Cannes Lions representative in South Africa, has announced the7 SA creatives selected to judge these prestigious awards this year.

Congrats to Tseliso Rangaka, ECD of Ogilvy Cape Town, set to judge the Radio & Audio category; Neo Mashigo, COO at M&C Saatchi Group set to judge the Print and Publishing category; Ryan McManus, CCO at VML, set to judge the Entertainment category; Michael Zylstra, chief strategy officer at Dentsu Aegis Network, set to judge the Media category; Nikki Taylor-Garrett, CD at TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris, set to judge the Brand Experience & Activations category; Fran Luckin, CCO at Grey Advertising, set to judge the Film category; and Claudi Potter, CD at Joe Public, set to judge the Direct Marketing category. The ABC has also released the latest circulation figures for both newspapers andmagazines for the first quarter of the year across the country. With the constant drive to all things digital the continued declines are no surprise but there are a few outliers bucking the trend such as Forbes Africa and Stuff magazine, so click through to the site for our in-depth analysis.

Lastly, we were deeply saddened by the passing of Matthew Buckland, one of the SA digital media’s industry’s best-known players, having taken home the ‘best individual contribution to digital’ award at the 2017 Bookmark Awards. He passed away from cancer at the age of 45 and inspired many with his digital spark.
